JOLIET, IL — A 38-year-old man from the state capital of Springfield remains in the Will County Jail after last week's arrest on Joliet's west side during a traffic stop. For Donta Vaughn, this marks his third time in the Will County Jail. He's charged this time with being an armed habitual criminal, a Class X felony.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, on November 19, at 12:46 a.m., the officers stopped a Chevrolet Malibu at Black Road and Westminster Road for a signal and equipment violation. Officers identified the driver as Rena Bradley, 41, of Bolingbrook and the front seat passenger as Vaughn.

English said that officers recovered the cannabis found inside the car from Bradley and a handgun was recovered from the glove compartment. Vaughn was placed into custody without incident.

Bradley was cited for failure to signal, improper lighting and possession of cannabis by driver and she was released at the scene. The vehicle was towed.

Vaughn was processed at the Joliet Police Department and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, where he remains in custody.
