SHOREWOOD, IL — A 38-year-old Plainfield citizen was captured last week by the Shorewood Police Department after officers say Derrick Hendrix ran from his car after leading police on a high-speed chase topping speeds over 100 mph.

Hendrix was captured around 9:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17. His charges include aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer-exceeding 21 mph, speeding more than 35 mph over the limit, driving while suspended, improper turn at intersection, improper use of registration title and driving an uninsured vehicle.

According to Shorewood police, patrol officers in the area of Jefferson Street and Route 59 saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Officers activated the mounted radar and observed the vehicle traveled 67 mph in a posted 40-mph zone.

The officers conducted a traffic stop and activated their emergency lights and squad siren and Hendrix stopped at the Huntington Bank, 998 Brook Forest Ave.

As the officer parked, Hendrix sped off at a high rate of speed, his arrest report showed. At that moment, the officer and a sergeant followed after Hendrix and Hendrix's speeding exceeded 100 mph, prompting the sergeant to terminate the chase.

Police noted that Hendrix later abandoned the vehicle and tried to run off. After officers received a call for a suspicious male, Hendrix was later arrested at Route 59 and Center Court. Hendrix comes from the 2400 block of Plainfield's White Ash Court.

Hendrix's latest arrest did not result in a Will County Jail detention, he was incarcerated in the county jail in 2023 and 2024, jail logs reflect.
