Intoxicated Plainfield Man Shoots Woman In Face With Pellet Gun: Will County Court

PLAINFIELD, IL — A Plainfield man is accused of shooting a woman in the face with a gel pellet gun while intoxicated, according to Aug. 13 court documents obtained by Patch.

Andrew P. Lytle, 44, is facing four charges of domestic battery — two misdemeanors, two felonies — after an Aug. 10 incident in the 16100 block of South Burgandy Drive.

At a hearing Friday, prosecutors will ask the judge to deny Lytle's pre-trial release because he "poses a real and present threat to the safety of any person ... or the community." Lytle intends to plead not guilty, according to a petition to deny pre-trial release.

Plainfield police responded to Lytle's residence after a caller reported being shot in the face with a gel bead gun. When police spoke to Lytle, they "immediately detected slurred speech."

"When asked if he shot someone with a pellet gun, Andrew made a shocked face, lifted his left arm up and stated, 'It's f---ing gel," prosecutors allege.

Lytle eventually confirmed he shot the woman, whom he is dating, "in a joking manner," according to police.

The woman told police that Lytle had been drinking and had modified the gun to rapidly shoot pellets at a time. Officers noticed gel fragments in the woman's hair and welts on both arms and near her left eye, the documents state.

When Lytle was taken into custody, police located an empty 99 Brand shooter and a knife in his pants and a pellet gun near the garage door. Prosecutors allege he also threatened officers and said he would "destroy" them, according to the petition.

Prosecutors noted he has a prior domestic battery conviction and is currently on sentence for theft, both out of Kane County.
