Endeavor Elmhurst Hospital lockdown lifted after police department responds to report of gunman at York and Roosevelt roads

A report of a gunman prompted a lockdown at a west suburban hospital on Thursday night, police said.

Elmhurst police said officers responded to Endeavor Elmhurst Hospital at York and Roosevelt roads just before 10 p.m.

Police said there was a report of a man armed with a handgun, and he was last seen in the hospital's parking lot.

The hospital was locked down as police searched the area.

Police released an update at 11:45 p.m., saying the lockdown was lifted and the suspect is no longer in the Elmhurst area.

The suspect has been described as a man in his 20s who is around 5-foot-10 and weighs about 120 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white shirt, a black sweatshirt, black shorts and black rag on his head.
