ELMHURST, IL – An Elmhurst woman's ex-boyfriend repeatedly threatened to kill her a few months ago, saying he would shoot her in the head and that he wanted her legs cut off, police said.

During the investigation, the woman, who lives in northwest Elmhurst, wavered whether she wanted to press charges. She said she had feelings for the man, police said.

On Jan. 18, Elmhurst police said they arrested Aly Ben Abdeltif, 35, of Augusta, Georgia, on felony charges of phone harassment by threatening to kill and electronic harassment by making a threat to kill.

As of Tuesday, the DuPage County Court website lists no charges against Abdeltif. The records say he was released to another state because he was a fugitive from justice. Patch obtained the police report Monday.

According to the report, Abdeltif also goes by the alias Giovanni Aly Fazani.

On Jan. 18, Abdeltif's ex-girlfriend called police to report his threats. She also did so three times over the two previous months, but backed off pressing charges.

The police report listed a variety of threats that it said Abdeltif made:

  • "I hope you die."
  • "I'm coming to shoot you in the head ok."
  • "I hope your entire family dies in that house together."
  • "Maybe a fire, maybe a gas leak."
  • "I want your family raped and killed, and it shown on the news and people asking why it happened."
  • "I really want your legs cut off and body thrown away in a dumpster with piss."
  • "I want you dismembered."
  • "I really hope you get in a bad car accident."
  • "I want you hurt."

While an officer was speaking with Abdeltif's ex-girlfriend, the suspect called. The officer answered

Abdeltif asked the officer to come kill him, saying he was suicidal, according to the report. Abdeltif alleged his ex-girlfriend stole his money and prevented him from getting a farm in Georgia, which he said was why he was upset, police said.

Police tracked Abdeltif's location to the Hard Rock Casino in Gary, Indiana. He was arrested.

The next day, the ex-girlfriend emailed an officer and said she wanted to drop the charges against Abdeltif. Crying, she said she spoke with Abdeltif overnight and worried about him getting killed, police said.

She also said she had feelings for him and couldn't live knowing what she did to him because they own things together and she needs him, police said. She further said she would not submit her phone or phone data for evidence, police said.
