Worth Man Charged In Fatal Hit-And-Run Tied To Possible Road Rage

Police believe the car vs. pedestrian may have evolved from an earlier road rage incident. Around 6:20 p.m. Monday, Worth police responded to a crash near the 6600 block of 115th Street. Officers learned that Richer was struck by a dark-colored BMW, which may have fled the area southbound on Natchez.

The older man was on foot when he witnessed the road rage involving his adult son, and the BMW driver, later identified as Shaban. Police said Richer entered the roadway in an attempt to intervene. As Richer crossed the road, police said Shaban turned around and fatally struck the older man.
Witnesses at the scene followed the BMW and identified it to police. Shaban was taken into custody moments after the crash at his home in the 11500 block of South Natchez, police said.

The gravely injured 46-year-old man was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he later died of his injuries.

The
Felony charges were approved Wednesday by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. Shaban is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing Thursday at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
