Wort Whipple Jr.: Mom seeks justice after teenage son shot, killed on SEPTA platform in West Philadelphia

"It's been two years since I got to touch my son, got to talk to my son, got to hold my son," says Ebony Anderson.

Wort Whipple Junior was shot and killed on the SEPTA platform at the 52nd Street Station in West Philadelphia on May 13th, 2023.

Whipple was riding the Market-Frankford EL on that Saturday afternoon when he and another rider got into an altercation.

It continued on the platform, and the suspect pulled out a gun and fired at least two shots.

Whipple was killed.

He was just 14 years old.

"You destroyed my life. I can never ever get my baby back. I can never ever hold my first and only son ever again. It hurts, it hurts so bad," says Anderson.

Two days after that fateful encounter, police released surveillance video that shows images of the suspect.

Police say he tried to destroy evidence by burning his clothes behind a laundromat near the train station.

"What I think should happen is that justice gets served, he spends the rest of his life behind bars," Anderson says.

Ebony Anderson says she believes someone who knew her son and their family was on the train that day, and may have seen the deadly situation unfold.

The City of Philadelphia is offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
