Woman standing on front porch killed during shootout in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia

A 27-year-old woman was killed early Tuesday morning after being caught in the crossfire of a shootout in the city's Strawberry Mansion neighborhood, police said.

The victim, identified as Jasmine Johnson, was on the porch of a home on the 3100 block of West Montgomery Avenue just before 12:30 a.m. when gunfire erupted from multiple directions.

According to investigators, Johnson was struck in the back by a bullet and ran inside the home, where she collapsed and was later pronounced dead.

"She was a good young lady," said a neighbor who identified himself as Cash. "It's very upsetting because this young girl got killed for nothing. Only 27."

The home where the shooting occurred is described as a boarding house. At the time of the incident, six other people were inside - three adults and three children ranging in age from 8 to 17. None of them were injured.

Chief Inspector Scott Small said evidence suggests that shots were fired from near the porch and sidewalk.

"They were clearly shooting in that direction," Small said. "One bullet went in the living room window and lodged in the wall. The bricks were struck multiple times - you can see fresh strike marks."

Crime scene investigators recovered nearly two dozen shell casings from the scene and believe at least one rifle was used in the shooting. Another home on the block was also hit by gunfire.

Detectives returned to the area later in the day to canvass for surveillance video and additional evidence.

"She was somebody's daughter," said Cash. "A young life was lost."

As of Tuesday evening, no arrests had been made. Police continue to investigate.
