Woman killed in East Harlem hit-and-run after speaking to SUV driver, NYPD says

A woman is dead after the driver of a double-parked SUV suddenly sped off and hit her during a conversation in East Harlem early Sunday morning, according to the NYPD.

Police said the incident happened shortly after 2 a.m. near East 118th Street and Third Avenue. A 37-year-old woman was standing at the driver’s side of a double-parked SUV, with the door ajar, and speaking with the driver, officials said.

The driver suddenly accelerated, knocking the woman to the ground, then continued eastbound on East 118th Street without stopping, police said.

She was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, where she was pronounced dead, authorities said. Her name was being withheld pending family notification, according to police.

No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing, according to the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.
