After a night shift, Travis Garges went to the McDonald's at 116th and Dodge.While he was at the drive-thru window, he said officers rushed up and told him to back up. Officers told him there was an active shooter and an officer had just been shot, he said.Grages said he has friends in law enforcement. He thought it could be one of them. But when an officer told him the officer who was shot was able to radio for help himself, he was encouraged.Officer Steven Murcek was shot in the head, but is expected to be OK, Omaha police said Monday."Adrenaline kicked in, and I'm hoping nothing else was going to happen," Garges said. "All I knew that I was informed was an officer got shot, and there's an active shooter."Garges said the police response was “very quick.”The police "were extremely organized," he said. "Everybody was in sync on what they need to do. I'm very impressed with the response."
