Willowbrook Mall shooting: Mall to reopen after shot fired, 2 adults, 1 juvenile detained

Three people have been detained for their alleged role in a fight that apparently led to a shot being fired in the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne, New Jersey Tuesday night.

Shoppers were spotted running for their lives in the chaotic scene.

The person who fired the shot is still being sought, an official said.

Wayne Police Department said that their investigation determined there is no ongoing threat to public or patrons, and the mall is expected to reopen as usual at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Two adults and one juvenile were taken into custody.

There were reports of a shot fired in the food court area of the mall just after 7 p.m. Tuesday .

State Troopers and police from more than a dozen nearby towns descended on the mall, blocked the parking lot entrances, refused to let people in and urged everyone to get out.

"Everybody was like colliding over me, and I was like what's going on? So I just started running with the crowd," said Amirras Saint Paul, who evacuated the mall.

Teens described panic and confusion as they ran from the mall after hearing what sounded like two gunshots.

"The first shot people thought, like, it was a bottle cap or something, and once the second shot went off, that's when everyone started really getting scared," said Ellison Lucien, who also evacuated the mall.

While state police could be heard warning people of an "active shooter" at the mall, Wayne Police emphasized that no one was hurt, and the situation was quickly placed under control.
