West Garfield Park, Chicago shooting today: Woman critically injured in 4300-block of West Adams Street; 1 in custody, police say

A person of interest is in custody in connection with a West Side shooting that critically injured a 19-year-old woman late Friday night, Chicago police said.

Police said officers responded to a call about a person shot in the West Garfield Park neighborhood's 4300-block of West Adams Street just before midnight.

Responding officers found the victim, shot in the face and neck, unresponsive. She was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where she is listed in critical condition.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting happened inside of a home, police said.

Officers recovered a weapon from the scene and took a person of interest into custody.

Area Four detectives are investigating.

Police did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.
