A bus driver in San Jose was slashed with a knife by a passenger on Wednesday morning, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.
Just after 7 a.m., deputies responded to an assault on a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority bus driver near Blossom Hill Road and Hillview Avenue, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Witnesses say the suspect, 23-year-old San Jose resident Darrian Lewis, was repeatedly pulling the stop request cord. When the VTA bus operator confronted him, Lewis allegedly became aggressive, the Sheriff's Office said. During the confrontation, he allegedly pulled out a large kitchen knife and slashed the driver several times.
The driver suffered three slash wounds.
Lewis got off the bus and fled on foot but was found by deputies nearby and arrested.
Lewis was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats, concealing a dirk or dagger, elder abuse and violating his probation.
