Van driver in Borough Park kills 84-year-old pedestrian, injures another, police say

Police said they are investigating after an octogenarian was struck and killed by a van as he crossed a Brooklyn street on Wednesday evening.

NYPD officials said 84-year-old Noach Klein was walking across 18th Avenue near 49th Street in Borough Park around 6:30 p.m, along with a 54-year-old man. A 38-year-old man driving south along 18th Avenue in a 2018 Ford Transit van hit the pair, who were not in the marked crosswalk but did have the red light in their favor, according to police.

Klein and the 54-year-old man were both taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where officials said Klein was pronounced dead and the younger man was listed in stable condition. Klein lived in South Williamsburg, according to police.

The van driver stayed at the scene and was not immediately arrested or charged, officials said.

The NYPD’s collision investigation squad was still looking into the crash early Thursday.

According to

But pedestrian deaths in the precinct have ticked up slightly in 2025: Klein is the fourth so far this year, while last year’s total around this time was two.
