Turkey hunter arrested after fatally shooting another hunter in Sutter County, officials say

A Sacramento man who was shot dead while turkey hunting in Sutter County on Sunday has been identified. Another hunter was arrested.The shooting was reported to the Sutter County Sheriff's Office around 9 a.m. Deputies responded to the Fremont Weir Wildlife Area at Gifford and Becker roads.Shawn Parrish, 65, was found with a single gunshot wound to the back of his head and died at the scene, the Sutter County Sheriff's Office said. Detectives identified 80-year-old John Lee, who was also hunting, as the shooter. Lee, also a Sacramento resident, was booked into the Sutter County Jail for second-degree murder and negligent discharge of a firearm. Bail was set at $1 million. According to the sheriff's office, Lee and Parrish were not hunting together. Lee had reportedly fired his shotgun into the brush while hoping to shoot a turkey and was unaware of what he was aiming at, according to the sheriff's office. Lee's arraignment is set for April 9.
