NYPD officials on Wednesday said 17-year-old Anthonaya Campbell died on Aug. 29, a week after she was shot in her head while watching a basketball game at Haffen Park in Baychester. The Connecticut resident was visiting her old neighborhood and was caught in the gunfire,
Four other people were also shot in the incident, including 32-year-old Jaceil Banks, who died later that night.
Police also announced Wednesday the death of 26-year-old Jahlil Jackson, who officials said was punched in the face on Grand Concourse near East 181st Street in Fordham Heights on Aug. 25. The assault caused him to fall and hit the pavement, and he went to St. Barnabas Hospital in a private vehicle, police said.
Jackson died of his injuries on Sept. 1, and the city chief medical examiner’s office ruled his death a homicide this past Tuesday, according to the NYPD. Police said they are still investigating the motive for the attack and have not yet arrested anyone in connection with it.
