Suspected arrested in connection to deadly Merced County shooting, deputies say

A suspect is in custody after a man was found dead on private property surrounded by fields.

The shooting happened just after 4 pm Wednesday on Hunt Road, between Gun Club and Taglio roads.

Merced County sheriff's deputies say the man suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A suspect was quickly identified as 46-year old Timothy Fontes.

He was found just down the street from the crime scene and taken into custody with the help of the SWAT team.

Fontes was booked into jail on murder charges.

The victim has not been identified.
