LA GRANGE, IL – Three men robbed a La Grange store last month, with one of them sitting on the lone employee to restrain him, local police said.

The robbery occurred about 1:30 p.m. July 31 at the Verizon store at 5 S. La Grange Road, which is in downtown.

Through a public records request, Patch obtained the police report.

According to the report, the three men rushed toward the employee. One of them flashed a black handgun and ordered, "Get the f– on the ground," police said. No customers were there.

The victim, a 23-year-old man, lay face down on the floor behind the desk, with one of the men sitting on him and holding the gun next to his head, police said.

The men asked the employee where the phones were kept. The worker said the phones were in the back.

The suspects then stole at least 50 phones, averaging $700 each, for a total of $35,000, according to the report. They were also believed to have stolen $400 from a cashbox.

The men then dragged the employee to the restroom, ordering him to stay inside and keep quiet, police said. He heard the suspects leave through the front door.

During the robbery, La Grange Park police were called about an armed person at a house in the 300 block of North La Grange Road, with La Grange officers assisting, police said. The report, which officers deemed false, was suspected to be a ploy to occupy police while the robbery was taking place, authorities said.

In the armed robbery, the suspect holding the gun and sitting on the employee was black, 5-foot-10, 140 to 160 pounds, and wearing gray pants and gloves, police said.

The second suspect was described as black, muscular, 6-foot-4, 200 to 220 pounds, and wearing a black ski mask and gloves.
