An assault suspect was killed in a police shooting outside an Applebee's restaurant in Corona, police said.
According to the Corona Police Department, dispatchers received a call just after midnight about a man swinging a crowbar at vehicles near a shopping center at McKinley Street and Promenade Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found the man armed with a metal iron.
"The subject refused multiple commands to drop his weapon and an officer involved shooting subsequently occurred," said the police department in a press release. "The subject was struck by gunfire and despite life saving measures he was pronounced deceased at the scene."
Police said the suspect also hit a driver inside a vehicle. The driver sustained moderate injuries, according to police.
Riverside County Sheriff's Force Investigations Detail and the DA's office are investigating the police shooting.
