
A suspect was “gravely wounded” and a US marshal assisting with an immigration enforcement operation was injured early Tuesday in Los Angeles, a law enforcement source tells CNN.Agents opened fire on the suspect after the individual apparently rammed into a vehicle that was part of a team of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and US marshals engaged in immigration enforcement, the source said.The suspect was “gravely wounded” in the incident but their specific condition is not currently known, the source said.Agents were attempting to make contact with the individual as part of an immigration removal effort, the source said.Investigators believe gunfire erupted after an ICE officer confronted the suspect’s vehicle and smashed a window with their service weapon, the source said. While attempting to grab the suspect, authorities believe the agent’s weapon discharged, striking both the suspect and a deputy US marshal.The US Marshals Service confirmed with CNN that a deputy was injured while conducting a joint operation with another agency Tuesday morning.
