South Austin, Chicago crime: Lyndale Roberts Jr. pleads not guilty in beating of Larry Gilkey on CTA bus on South Cicero Avenue

One of the people accused in a brutal beating of a man on a CTA bus has pleaded not guilty.

Lyndale Roberts Jr., 18, been charged with felony counts of aggravated battery along with several misdemeanor counts.

Police say Roberts and two 15-year-olds, a boy and girl, attacked Larry Gilkey on Dec. 16.

The crime happened around 5:40 p.m. in the 700-block of South Cicero Avenue, as the bus approached I-290 from Roosevelt Road, police said.

At last check, Gilkey's family told ABC7 that he has severe head injuries and is expected to need daily care.

Roberts is being held in custody.

He is due back in court Thursday for a Pretrial Fairness Act detention hearing.
