A shelter-in-place alert triggered by an "altercation" between U.S. Coast Guard security and an unknown person in the Coast Guard housing area of Novato was lifted Thursday night.

The alert was issued for the Bolling, Marin Valley and Coast Guard Housing areas of southern Novato.

The Coast Guard Novato Housing site comprises 121 housing units ranging from single-family homes to duplex and multiplex apartment buildings at the former Hamilton Army Airfield.

Earlier, police said, "Novato police, Novato fire, Marin sheriff and San Rafael police are on scene investigating an altercation between U.S. Coast Guard Security and an unknown suspect in the Coast Guard housing area."

The notice was directed to residents of the Coast Guard Housing area around South Oakwood Drive, Bolling Circle, Smart Hamilton Station, Hathaway Drive and Marin Valley Mobile Home Park.
