SELDEN, NY — A Selden man is now facing an upgraded felony charge of vehicular assault in connection with a 2024
Francisco Fernandesdosreis, 51, was driving a 2004 Jeep Cherokee northbound, when the vehicle struck two parked vehicles and overturned in front of an apartment complex on College Road just after 5 p.m. on Nov. 14, 2024, police initially said.
The passenger in the Jeep, a 70-year-old Farmingville man, whose name was not released, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment, according to police.
Fernandesdosreis, who was not hurt, was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated, both misdemeanors, police said.
He was charged with first-degree vehicular assault on Dec. 15.
A police spokeswoman said the investigation determined the new charge was warranted due to the injuries suffered by his passenger.
Further details were not available from police.
Fernandesdosreis has pleaded not guilty to the charges, online court records show.
Patch has reached out to his attorney, Oscar Crisafio of Central Islip, for comment.
