Santa Clara police shoot, kill stabbing suspect after reported attack at home

Santa Clara police shot and killed a person after responding to a report of a stabbing at a home Wednesday morning.

Officers responded at 6:18 a.m. to a report of a stabbing inside a home in the 1800 block of Eisenhower Drive.

The Santa Clara Police Department said in a news release that "officers arrived, encountered the suspect, and were involved in an Officer Involved Shooting."

The suspected stabber was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead, police said. Their name has not yet been released.

The stabbing victim was taken to a hospital and an update on their condition was not immediately available. The officer was not injured and their name has also not been released, according to police.

The fatal shooting by the officer is being jointly investigated by Santa Clara police and the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office. Police did not release any other details about what led to the shooting but said they expect to provide an update Thursday afternoon.
