Road Rage In Channahon, 67-Year-Old Motorist With 2 Guns Faces 2 Criminal Charges: Channahon Police
CHANNAHON, IL — A 67-year-old man who comes from Channahon is now facing two criminal charges of disorderly conduct and aggravated assault following a road rage incident last month at a traffic light, according to the arrest reports. The charges were just filed last week by the Will County State's Attorney's Office and Gossman will remain a free citizen, pending his next court appearance, set for January.
According to Channahon deputy police chief Matt Brooks, on November 18, at 1:19 p.m., the Channahon Police Department received a report that a male driver, later identified as Gossman, had pointed a gun at the caller while stopped at a traffic light on West Eames Street, which is Route 6.
The caller proceeded to the police department to report the incident, and officers located the suspect vehicle a short time later.
A traffic stop was conducted near the intersection of St. Paul and St. Elizabeth and Channahon police say they identified Gossman as the driver and officers recovered two guns, one on his person and another in plain view on the center console.
After interviewing both people, officers learned the confrontation stemmed from a road-rage incident in which each person alleged unsafe driving by the other, according to Brooks.
He said the officers determined that probable cause existed to charge Gossman with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct. He was taken into custody without incident, processed, and released on a notice to appear at the Will County Courthouse.
According to his criminal complaint, Gossman "knowingly brandished his handgun in such unreasonable manner as to alarm or disturb another." The complaint also indicates that Gossman, "without lawful authority knowingly brandished a handgun, thereby placing (the victim) in reasonable apprehension of receiving a battery."
