GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A man drove recklessly and ran a red light during a crash that killed another driver and seriously injured the victim's wife last month in Gloucester Township, according to officials and court records.
The crash seriously injured both drivers and a passenger around 10:15 p.m. Oct. 11 at Berlin-Cross Keys Road and Johnson Road, police said.
One driver — Louis Bontya, 76 — succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Bontya's passenger, who police identified as his wife, was also hurt.
The other driver — Marcus A. Young, 23, of Sicklerville — was charged with second-degree death by auto and third-degree assault by auto, police said Wednesday. Young was also seriously injured in the crash.
Police did not what caused the crash. But online court records show that Young was ticketed in the incident for reckless driving, speeding and running a red light.
Young was traveling south on Cross Keys Road when he struck an SUV in the intersection at Johnson Road, police said.
Both vehicles were severely damaged, police said. Young and both people inside the SUV were extricated from their vehicles and brought to the hospital.
Nobody else was inside Young's car during the crash.
Attorney information for Young wasn't immediately available in online court records.
