HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR, IL — A "racially offensive and threatening message" found written on a bathroom stall at Homewood-Flossmoor High School Tuesday prompted heightened security measures and increased police presence, the school's principal said. A police investigation is also underway.
"...While there is no direct or specific threat identified at this time, we are taking this situation very seriously," wrote Principal Dr. Clinton Alexander in a notice to parents.
Photos of the writings provided to Patch show they allude to someone "shooting up" the school this week, with the hashtags "whiteprivilege," "whitesrule," and "whitepride."
Alexander told parents that school administration immediately contacted Flossmoor Police, and an investigation has been opened.
Parents and students might also notice increased police presence on the campus in coming days, Alexander said.
"These steps are being taken to ensure the continued safety and well-being of all students and staff," the notice reads.
"We will continue to work closely with law enforcement and will keep you informed of any updates as appropriate," Alexander wrote. "As always, the safety of our school community remains our top priority."
Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to contact school administration or the Flossmoor Police Department, Alexander said.
