Protesters clash with National Guard, LAPD officers outside downtown LA detention center

Protesters against federal immigration raids clashed with National Guard personnel and Los Angeles police outside a downtown jail and one person was arrested, police said Thursday.

According to video from the scene, the confrontation took place outside the federal Metropolitan Detention Center in the area of Alameda Street between Temple and Aliso streets.

A traffic advisory issued by the LAPD's Central Division around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday warned of protesters possibly being in the road on Alameda.

A help call from officers at the scene went out at 10:16 p.m., according to the LAPD.

A federal officer was attacked by a man wearing dark clothes and a mask, but it did not appear the agent was seriously injured as no ambulance was requested, an LAPD spokeswoman said.

Officers formed a skirmish line and took a female suspected of assault with a deadly weapon into custody, according to police.

It was not clear whether that suspect was believed to have been involved in the attack on the federal officer.
