Police officer injured while responding to shots fired at motel in New Jersey

A police officer was shot and injured while responding to a call of shots fired at a motel in New Jersey.

The situation unfolded just after noon on Wednesday at the Gallery Holiday Motel on Ball Street.

When a man with dreadlocks opened the door, gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and police officers.

An officer was apparently injured and suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The man with the dreadlocks was captured in the rear of a building on Augusta Street a short time later.

Two people were apparently taken into custody.

The cause of the shooting is under investigation.
