One of the three officers killed in a deadly ambush in York County, Pennsylvania , was a former member of the Philadelphia Police Department.
Detective Mark Baker, who served with the Philadelphia police from 2001 to 2004, was among those killed in the attack. He began his career in the city's 25th District and later joined the highway patrol unit.
"Knowing Mark and knowing now what happened, it just breaks our heart," said Roosevelt Poplar, president of the Fraternal Order of Police. "It's like it hit home again."
Officials say Baker, along with Det. Sgt. Cody Becker and Det. Isaiah Emenheiser, were serving a warrant on a suspect stalker when the man opened fire on them.
That suspect was killed a few moments later.
Poplar described Baker as "a very honorable police officer for the years he was here."
During his time in Philadelphia, Baker worked alongside Officer Pat McDonald, who was shot and killed during a traffic stop in 2008.
The news of Baker's death has reverberated throughout law enforcement communities across Pennsylvania and the nation.
"It impacts every police department, because every police officer looks at that and says, 'that could have been me,'" said Maureen Rush, president of the Philadelphia Police Foundation and a former Philadelphia police lieutenant.
Rush spoke Thursday during the foundation's annual roll call meal event, which honors officers and reminds them that the community supports them.
"It's what we do not because of yesterday, it's what we do in spite of yesterday," Rush said.
