Police arrested a man they say attacked and shoved an off-duty NYPD officer onto Manhattan subway tracks Tuesday night.

Department officials said the 24-year-old officer was at the 14th Street/Third Avenue L train station in the East Village around 7:30 p.m. when Aaron Walker, 28, assaulted him. Walker punched and pushed the officer onto the tracks, causing him minor injuries to his head and body, according to police. He was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

Officers arrested Walker at the 14th Street/Union Square station in connection with the incident, officials said. He was charged with attempted murder, attempted assault, reckless endangerment, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

Police said Walker lives in Harlem. A lawyer for him was not immediately available as he awaited his arraignment in Manhattan court early Wednesday.
