Philadelphia police investigate violent flight that left brothers in critical condition

Two brothers are in critical condition after, what police call, a domestic dispute.

Police were called to the 5500 block of Larchwood Street after multiple 911 calls from neighbors.

When officers arrived, they heard nothing coming from inside the home.

They forced entry through the front and back doors.

Inside, they found two men. One was unconscious, the other barely holding on.

Police said the two are brothers, ages 33 and 29. Both were rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

"One was suffering from multiple stab wounds. The other had multiple rifle gunshot wounds," said Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace.

Investigators described the scene as a bloody battle.

Multiple rifle rounds were recovered inside the home.

Police are still trying to determine who started the fight.

"We're not sure who the aggressor is in this incident, but it appears one of the persons either began shooting at the other, or one began stabbing the other, and then the other person then returned gun shots, or stabbing the other person, to the point where both were very injured," said Pace.

Officers also had to contend with a pit bull inside the home.

Police say between 10 and 20 shots were fired.

"Some of those rifle rounds did go into walls, as a matter of fact, one of them severed a water line and began flooding the home, so we had to shut off the main water valve," said Pace.

At this point, police have not identified a motive.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Philadelphia Police.
