JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department announced that Shawn Scott, a 33-year-old man out of Chicago, was captured over the weekend in downtown Joliet on charges of unlawful possession of a gun by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, obstructing a peace officer and resisting a peace officer.
At 2:03 a.m. on Sunday, the officers conducted a traffic stop on a Lincoln MKX near Jefferson Street and Ottawa Street for a suspended registration plate and Scott was a backseat passenger. Joliet police noted that the driver consented to a search, and during a pat down of Scott, an officer felt a handgun in his coat. According to police spokesman Dwayne English, Scott then ran away and ignored commands to stop.
Officers caught up to Scott and placed him into custody following a brief struggle where Scott was taken to the ground, the arrest report showed. After searching Scott, a loaded handgun with an extended magazine was recovered, English revealed.
Joliet police learned that the Illinois Department of Corrections had issued a parole violation warrant for Scott. He was processed at the Joliet Police Department and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
