The Omaha Police Department identified the suspect who was injured by gunfire and the fatal shooting victim from Sunday's incident at an apartment complex that led to an officer firing their service weapon.A 50-year-old man, identified as Billy Dorrall, was taken into custody after an incident Sunday at Florence Tower, located near Browne Street and Florence Boulevard.Omaha police said 45-year-old Eric Bechtolt was killed before officers arrived at the scene.What happened?Around 6 p.m., officers responded to multiple calls reporting an armed suspect firing shots inside Florence Tower, Omaha police said.The suspect was reportedly on the sixth floor and armed with multiple firearms, according to investigators.Authorities said when they arrived, they could hear gunshots taking place inside the residence. Officers went to the sixth floor from the elevator and the stairwell, Omaha police said.Officers said when they arrived via the stairwell, they encountered Dorrall. Gunfire was exchanged with the suspect, and one officer fired their service weapon in the direction of Dorrall, who retreated further into the sixth floor.Officers entered the hallway and found a victim, identified as 45-year-old Bechtolt, deceased, authorities said. Omaha police said Dorrall was found farther down the hallway, in possession of two handguns and suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers issued "multiple verbal commands" and Dorrall complied and was taken into custody without further incident, investigators said.Investigators said Dorrall shot and killed Bechtolt during a disturbance before officers arrived.What do we know about the suspect?First responders took Dorrall to Nebraska Medicine for treatment.He faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, attempted first-degree assault, three counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony and felon in possession of a firearm.What do we know about the investigation?The incident is being investigated by the Omaha Police Department's Officer-Involved Investigations Team, with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol and the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office.Omaha police said portions of the incident were captured on the officers' body cameras and the officers involved have been placed on leave.
