Omaha man accused in shooting involving Washington County deputies denied bond during court appearance

An Omaha man facing seven felony charges in Washington County is out of the hospital and was denied bond during a court appearance Wednesday.The Washington County Sheriff's Office also identified the three deputies who were involved in the shooting in Arlington on Jan. 6.During the incident, 48-year-old David Boettcher was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over for a traffic stop. A 1-year-old child was also in the car, according to officials.That's when deputies discovered he had an active felony warrant and a handgun, officials said.According to investigators, while calling for backup, deputies were fired upon and their cruiser was hit. Deputies returned fire and Boettcher was hit, authorities said. No deputies were hurt. The gun Boettcher used was found at the scene.The deputies were identified as Sgt. Bryan Spilinek, who has been a patrol sergeant for 8½ years, Ashley Judkins, a school resource officer assigned to Arlington Public Schools who has 7½ years of experience and Brice Beckman, who has 1½ years of experience.READ MORE: Traffic stop for driver under suspended license results in new charges for passengerBoettcher is charged with one count of possession of a deadly or dangerous weapon by a prohibited person, one count of possession of a controlled substance, one count of use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, one count of possession of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, one count of intentional child abuse without serious injury, and two counts of criminal attempt of assault.
