Officials identify Iowa National Guard soldiers killed after attack in Syria

The Iowa National Guard identified the two soldiers who were killed in an attack in Syria last week.Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard, 29, of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Sgt. Edgar Brian Torrestovar, 25, of Grimes, Iowa, died in the attack on Saturday, Dec. 13. Stephen Osborn, adjutant general of the Iowa National Guard, said in a statement. "They were dedicated professionals and cherished members of our Guard family who represented the best of Iowa. Our focus now is providing unwavering support to their families through this unimaginable time and ensuring the legacy of these two heroes is never forgotten."Three other soldiers were wounded and a U.S. civilian was also killed during the attack. The Pentagon's chief spokesman, Sean Parnell, said the civilian killed was a U.S. interpreter.Officials said two of the soldiers required medical evacuation for further treatment and are in stable condition.
