A police chase in San Ramon Monday evening led to two arrests and a police officer injured.
A broken fire hydrant could still be seen lying on the ground Tuesday morning in the area of Kyler Court and Kyler Lane. It's just one of the remnants left over from a police chase and crash the night before.
The crash led to two arrests and thousands of gallons of water shooting up in the air, startling neighbors.
"Watching TV and I heard the sirens, and then a big crash and I looked outside and this fire hydrant just blasting in the air," said Adam Bieneman, who lives nearby.
It all started after police said they were investigating suspects believed to be connected to a series of auto burglaries and vehicle thefts.
"Vehicles that were stolen in other jurisdictions, dropped off or dumped here in San Ramon, and also vehicles that were stolen here in our in our city," said Lt. Leysy Pelayo with the San Ramon Police Department.
Police said they got information that the suspects were going to return to this area where a stolen vehicle had already been abandoned.
Those suspects did come back to the scene of the crime, and that's when the pursuit happened.
"The four subjects fled in the vehicle. As the vehicle was fleeing, it ended up striking a total of four of our vehicles," Pelayo said.
One officer standing by the driver's side door of a vehicle was hurt.
"The car hit the driver's door on the way out and ultimately ended pinning the officer's leg momentarily between the door and the door frame," Pelayo said.
Police used spike strips, which led to the vehicle losing control and crashing into that hydrant.
Officers caught two of the suspects and are still searching for the other two.
"We're being proactive to make sure that we end up identifying the people responsible and apprehending them," Pelayo said.
The officer injured was treated at the hospital and released with minor injuries.
Police say the two suspects arrested face several charges, including hit and run connected to the injured officer, possession of stolen property and vehicle burglary.
