NYPD officers shoot and kill man in East Flatbush after domestic violence call

A man was shot and killed by police officers in East Flatbush on Sunday morning after officers responded to a domestic violence call, officials said.

According to the NYPD, six officers from the 67th Precinct arrived around 9:09 a.m. after a 27-year-old woman called 911 and said a man she knew was harassing her at her door. She also told officers she was in the process of obtaining a restraining order against him.

Police said they approached the 28-year-old man as he was leaving the building. He fled on foot and officers pursued him to East 86th Street and Coventry Road, authorities said. According to police, the man was carrying a gun and officers repeatedly ordered him to drop it.

The NYPD said the man did not comply and was shot once in the chest.

Officers placed him in handcuffs, rendered aid and transported him to Kings County Hospital in a patrol car, where he was later pronounced dead. Police said they recovered a loaded revolver at the scene.

“There’s prior domestic incident reports involving the 911 caller and the [man who was killed],” NYPD Assistant Chief Frank Giordano said at a press conference. “Their exact relationship, we’re still investigating. The incident happened very quickly, about a six-minute timeframe from when we arrived to when we actually engaged the subject.”

The shooting was recorded on police body-worn cameras and the NYPD’s Force Investigation Division is reviewing the footage.

The identities of the man and the woman had not been released as of Sunday afternoon.
