NYC police shooting: Man shot by NYPD officer on Upper East Side, police say

A man was shot by police on the Upper East Side on Thursday night.

Police responded to a call for a man with a firearm on East 107 Street and Madison Avenue just after 7 p.m.

Officers canvassed the area and found the suspect at 7:20 p.m. near East 96 Street and Madison Avenue, police said.

An NYPD officer encountered the suspect and discharged his service weapon, striking the man, police said.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and is expected to survive, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
