
North Omaha community members are asking residents to put down the weapons. It's in response to the latest deadly shooting along 24th Street. The N 24th Street Business Improvement District hosted an event near where the deadly shooting took place. She said they need additional support from elected leaders, police, property owners and the community to stop the violence. Jan. 12 marked the second homicide of 2025 in Omaha. The mass shooting killed one person and injured four others near 24th and Binney streets. Police were called to the scene around 3 a.m. Sunday when ShotSpotter detected 14 rounds.Officers found two victims with gunshots, while three others took themselves to local hospitals.Police have identified the deceased victim as Brandon Jones, 37.The other victims are expected to survive. According to OPD crime mapping, the last homicide to happen on 24th Street was back in April 2024 when Artell Evans was shot and killed. Goodwin said the BID has brought in over $15 million to improve infrastructure like sidewalks, add bus shelters, and help small businesses.
