Newark Police picked up their investigation in the exact spot on Sunday where there was a crescendo of violence the night before.
Some living near the corner of Chancellor Avenue and Leslie Street are so fed up and afraid that one person warned me that no one would talk about what happened Saturday night.
One witness told me he was inside his shop, right around 7:00 p.m., when he saw sparks outside - a suspect or group of people firing guns, aiming at people standing near this bus stop.
Manuel Fencion works at another store just a few feet from where this all went down.
"I heard the shots, and I threw myself on the floor. There were about 8 shots. When it stopped, I got close to the door and saw nobody outside. I went outside and got close to the liquor store saw 2 victims in front of the liquor store. I don't know if they were alive or dead," Fencion said.
Officials say the barrage of bullets hit 5 people , killing a 10-year-old boy and a 21-year-old woman.
A 60-year-old man, a 19-year-old and an 11-year-old boy were injured.
News of the shooting sparked an outpouring of grief on the West Ward Hawks Facebook page. A post, possibly from a coach, said the incident "...involved a few of my players. 3 of them were shot, and one died."
The little boy who didn't make it, the post goes on to say, "...he didn't deserve for his life to be taken this early...I'm so hurt because he was a good kid."
There are cameras in this area, and detectives are reviewing the footage to determine more about who is behind this shooting.
The Essex County Sheriff's Department is offering a $10,000 reward for information in this case.
The prosecutor plans to brief the media on Monday morning at 10.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Tips Line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432. All calls will remain confidential.
