Police in Newark are looking for the gunman who shot 5 people, killing a 10-year-old boy and a 21-year-old woman on Saturday night.
The shooting happened on the 300 block of Chancellor Avenue at around 7:00 pm Saturday.
The 10-year-old and the 21-year-old victims were pronounced dead at University Hospital.
Three other victims, an 11-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man, and a 60-year-old man remained in the hospital in stable condition on Sunday morning.
The sheer volume of shell casings had business owners in the area ducking for cover.
Mayor Ras Baraka is urging the shooter to surrender to the police.
At least 17 evidence markers could be spotted as police bombarded the area.
Lamont Vaughn of the Newark Office of Violence Prevention and Trauma Recovery has seen too many families deal with this pain.
"It's not something that is treated with one dose of medicine. It's a multilayered approach that has to happen. And it takes the community, it takes the government, it takes the business community. It takes the parents, the residents -- it takes everybody," Vaughn said.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Tips Line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432. All calls will remain confidential.
