New details released following chaotic barricade situation that left suspect dead

Philadelphia police have released new details about a chaotic barricade situation last month in the city's Logan section, where an officer discharged their weapon during a tense standoff.

The incident unfolded on Sept. 21 along the 5100 block of North 10th Street. Investigators identified the suspect as 54-year-old James Harris.

Police say Harris shot a woman inside the home, triggering a multi-hour standoff. Officers and medics were forced to take cover behind vehicles as Harris allegedly fired at them from inside the residence.

One officer returned fire during the incident, but police say no one was struck.

When the SWAT team eventually entered the home, they found Harris dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The woman who was shot in the arm managed to escape through a second-story window. She was treated for injuries related to both the gunshot and the fall.

The officer who discharged their weapon has been placed on temporary administrative duty, which is standard procedure during investigations involving use of force.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the standoff.
