Late Sunday morning, an MTAPD officer working inside a police facility at Grand Central Station was cleaning his service weapon when it accidentally discharged.
The MTAPD said that no other individuals were present when the gun went off, and no one else was injured.
One round was fired into the officer's lower calf, and the injured officer was removed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue for medical care.
A preliminary investigation by MTAPD Internal Affairs Division is underway, with the entire incident under review.
