Motorist Charged After Trying To Pull Fast One In Fairfield: Police
FAIRFIELD, CT — A 45-year-old West Haven man was arrested on criminal impersonation and related charges this month, after Fairfield police said he gave a false identity "to deceive officers" after a traffic stop this month, Patch has learned.
Mwelwa Kapoma was pulled over by officers in Fairfield on April 14 when police saw that the license plate on the car he was driving did not match the vehicle.
"During the course of the traffic stop, Kapoma provided false documentation to officers and impersonated another person with the intent to deceive officers," Sgt. Jenna Wellington told Patch.
After officers were able to determine Kapoma's true identity, they discovered he had a suspended driver license.
Kapoma was taken into custody and was charged with the following:
- First-degree criminal impersonation
- Interfering with an officer
- Misuse of marker plates
- Operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license
He was released on a written promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Friday.
