Mother speaks out during tribute for teen who was killed after caught in gunfire at basketball game in the Bronx

Friends and loved ones gathered Friday to memorialize a teenager who died after being caught in alleged gang gunfire in the Bronx.

17-year-old Anthonaya Campbell was among 5 people who were shot at Haffen Park last month.

Campbell died six days after the shooting during a basketball tournament at Haffen Park. She was taken off life support.

The shooting also killed 32-year-old Jaceil Banks, who was shot in the chest, and injured three other people.

Police arrested and charged four young men with murder.

Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.

Many showed support for Campbell's grieving mother on Friday with a balloon release in her honor.

To her mom, Campbell was called 'Ming.'

"Ming is about peace, she was the epitome of love, respect, peace," Jennifer Talbot said.

Campbell, just 17-years-old was shot in the face.

It's a loss that her family members are still trying to process.

"I'm still looking for her to come from up the block, or from downstairs, or to call on the phone, I'm still waiting," Talbot said.

Dozens of balloons and oversized portraits now adorn the park, which the family wanted to transform into a place of peace.

It's in remembrance of a young woman who wanted to be a speech pathologist, which was an extension of her passion for helping others.

"She was a person who loved everyone and helped everyone. When her friends were in need she would help them to make sure they had some place to stay," Talbot said.
