Mother Krista Roy accused of shooting, stabbing 16-year-old son to death as he slept in St. Charles County, Missouri

A Missouri mother is accused of shooting her 16-year-old son as he slept and then stabbed him multiple times until he died.

Friends of the 16-year-old boy called police because they weren't able to reach him.

When police arrived, they immediately noticed a foul odor.

Police found the 16-year-old boy dead with multiple stab and gunshot wounds. He was the only one home.

His mother, Krista Roy, 47, had been taken to the hospital after prosecutors say she took numerous pills and had wounds to her arms, believed to be self-inflicted.

She was later released and that's when officers made the arrest.

"She confessed that she had obtained a pistol with the intent to kill her son and herself and that she shot him several times while he was sleeping in his bed," Prosecuting attorney Joe McCulloch said. "She then laid down with him because he was still alive, was caressing him and he was calling out her name, saying 'mommy, mommy.'"

Prosecutors say even after shooting her teenage son, Roy allegedly stabbed her son with a kitchen knife "to make sure that he would die."

She was being held on a $1 million cash-only bond. She was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
