An armed thief shot a man before robbing him on the city's South Side early Saturday morning, Chicago police said.
Police said the shooting happened in the Morgan Park neighborhood's 11000-block of South Ashland Avenue just after 1 a.m.
A 34-year-old man was outside when two male suspects, armed with a gun, approached him, police said. The suspects demanded the man's property, but he refused and tried to walk away.
Police said that's when one of the suspects fired shots, striking the man in the hip and thigh. The thieves took his property before fleeing the scene on foot.

The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition.
There is no one in custody, and Area Two detectives are investigating.
Police did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.
