A Modesto man was arrested after allegedly breaking into a Riverside County home and attacking an older couple, killing a man, according to the Murrieta Police Department. On Wednesday, around 8:18 a.m., officials said a woman called 911 and reported that an unknown man had entered her home and attacked her and her husband. She said she had been stabbed in the head with a screwdriver, and her husband had been stabbed with a knife. Murrieta police said officers arrived at the home on Old Spring Road and found a 70-year-old man, who had already died from his injuries. The woman was taken to an area hospital and was in stable condition. Officers searched the neighborhood and just before 9 a.m. found 36-year-old Manuel Arturo Alvarez, who matched the description of the suspect given by the victim, police said.Officials said Alvarez was in a ravine behind a nearby residence and hid in the bushes. Murrieta police said Alvarez refused to leave the bushes, so a K-9 was deployed and helped get him into custody. Alvarez was treated for injuries he sustained from the K-9 and then booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center, officials said. He faces homicide and attempted homicide charges.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel
