JOLIET, IL —A 36-year-old Joliet citizen named Michaelangelo Cano was arrested over the weekend on four counts of aggravated assault and one count of obstructing a peace officer.
Joliet police spokesman Tizoc Landeros said that incident happened Friday around 9 p.m. in the 1100 block of Clement Street.
Landeros said his fellow Joliet officers were conducting a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Clement Street when Cano drove his vehicle toward them. Officers instructed him to move along, but he refused and began yelling profanities. He was ordered not to obstruct the traffic stop, yet he continued interfering, parking across from the officers while continuing to shout and making threats to return on his bicycle wearing a mask, stating he would "come back for you all," the Joliet police revealedd.
About eight minutes later, Cano, now masked, rode slowly past the officers. Concerned for their safety, the officers took cover until Cano rode past, and they lost sight of him, Landeros pointed out.
After completing the traffic stop, officers located Cano in the 900 block of Clement Street. When they attempted to stop him, he ignored commands and fled despite emergency lights and sirens being activated. Cano eventually fell off his bicycle, and officers took him to the ground to prevent further flight, the Joliet police pointed out.
He was then taken into custody and transported to the Joliet Police booking area. Cano was booked and released on a notice to appear in Will County's Courthouse without further incident.
